Calling the Trudeau government’s actions, an assault on Western Canadian Industries, Premier Scott Moe says the Saskatchewan government will not support the throne speech from the minority Liberal government.
Moe called it a “very vague” speech from the throne, saying that he would like to have seen the federal budget show where the support is coming from and where it’s going; in particular, how it’s supporting Saskatchewan industries.
He also wants to know where the country is at from an accounting perspective; how long it will take to pay for some of the money flowing through the federal government’s hands with virtually no accountability.
Moe added that his main concern, something he found absent in the throne speech, was no support for the energy and agriculture industries.
The Canadian Association of Oil Well Drilling Contractors was encouraged to hear the federal government acknowledge how important Canadian energy is.
President and CEO, Mark Scholz says it not only provides good jobs, affordable energy, and a high standard of living, but protects and advocates for the environment both at home and around the world.
He adds the extension of the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy through next summer will help many struggling oil and gas businesses.
He considers the overall tone of the speech to be a positive one.
