A public inquest into the death of Otto Hansen begins Monday, at the Sandman Hotel at 310 Circle Drive West in Saskatoon.
The 46 year old was found unresponsive in his cell at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon on October 25, 2017. Lifesaving attempts were made, but Hansen was pronounced deceased.
The Chief Coroner can hold an inquest into the death of a person who dies while an inmate at a jail or a correctional facility, unless satisfied that the person’s death was due entirely to natural causes and was not preventable.
The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
Coroner Blaine Beaven will preside.
