On Sunday a front line officer at the Yorkton RCMP Detachment tested positive for COVID-19 and immediately began self-isolating however now all employees who were in contact are also self isolating. That includes 14 officers and six civilian employees who are all being tested for COVID-19.
The Yorkton RCMP Detachment is temporarily closing its doors to the general public for non-emergency matters starting today (mon) until October 12th. The Yorkton RCMP detachment will continue to answer all phone calls from the public. The RCMP says Yorkton residents can be assured there will be police officers responding to calls for service as if there was a functioning detachment. And anyone calling for service should not notice a difference in policing services.
Regulations around the municipal elections involve criminal record checks for anyone running as a candidate for both public and Catholic school trustee. Anyone who already submitted a request for a criminal record check at the Yorkton Detachment will still receive their results in the mail. Priority criminal record checks for the upcoming municipal election or relating to a health care position can be sent to detachments in Canora, Kamsack and Melville. Regular employment criminal record checks will be handled at a later date.
Four individuals within the Yorkton Regional High School also tested positive for COVID-19, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared an outbreak at the school. In class instruction was suspended today (mon) and on-line learning, at regularly scheduled school times, begins tomorrow for two weeks.
