Taking more time before a decision.
That’s what the Canada West Conference is doing when it comes to whether or not their member schools play hockey, basketball and volleyball in the New Year. Canada West has pushed back their final decision date to no later than November 2nd from the October 8th date originally stated back in June. Back then, Canada West cancelled the 2020 season for the fall sports of football and soccer and, eventually, cross-country running. The delay in deciding came after consultations between Canada West and student-athletes. The Conference’s Board of Directors voted earlier this week to allow as much time as possible to determine if a return to action is a good idea or not in the ever-changing COVID-19 world we live in. Track and field and wrestling also fall into the waiting game for this decision. Following is the news release from Huskie Athletics and the Canada West Conference…

Canada West Communications
EDMONTON – Canada West announced Friday that it will delay the decision on whether second term conference competition proceeds in the New Year until no later than November 2. The initial deadline for a decision was scheduled for October 8.
Following feedback from student-athletes, the conference’s Board of Directors voted earlier this week to delay a decision on second term competition, allowing as much time as possible to assess the feasibility of conference play returning given the evolving COVID-19 environment.
Friday’s announcement pertains to the following second term team sports – basketball (men’s and women’s), hockey (men’s and women’s), volleyball (men’s and women’s) – along with Canada West championships in track and field (men’s and women’s), and wrestling (men’s and women’s).
Canada West cancelled all fall term team competition in June, and subsequently opted for cancellations of CW championships in cross country.
