In addition to the fear of getting COVID-19 when out of country putting a hold on many people’s travel plans, was that health insurance coverage hasn’t been, for the most part, available until recently.

The Saskatchewan Blue Cross says it is now offering COVID-19 coverage for people travelling

Spokesperson Kristy Kolach says there is no difference between going for a one or two week holiday or if you’re planning on being out of country longer.

And she says its important, even travelling within Canada, to have travel insurance in place because your Saskatchewan health care card may not cover all out of pocket expenses.

They have individual plans and annual plans so the individual plans can be purchased per trip but if you travel frequently or for longer duration they recommend the annual plan.

There is a restriction, however. You can’t have tested positive for COVID-19 three months prior to departure because then it would be considered a pre-existing condition. However, that doesn’t mean you need to take a COVID-19 test before you leave.
