SARCAN has shattered previous records throughout the summer with close to 60 million containers being collected in August, and serving 140 thousand customer in the province.
That from Sean Homenick, manager of communication and culture, who says September will come close to that as well with 43 million containers already being counted from 190 thousand customers. An increase he says of about 25% more, when compare to previously busy summers.
This summer Saskatoon saw almost a half a million containers a day from over 2000 customers. So far in September that has amounted to about 10 million containers between the city’s 4 depots.
Homenick says wait times have gone down in rural Saskatchewan. However in Regina, Saskatoon, P.A and Moose Jaw there can be some longer waits but even those lines have decreased with more people utilizing the drop and go system. Homenick says over 1 in 3 customers are using that system now, compared to 3% before the pandemic. He calls it the quickest and safest way to currently be using SARCAN.
