The Metis Nation – Saskatchewan is introducing a pilot program where Metis dialysis patients will be reimbursed for fuel and parking costs associated with travel to and from their communities for dialysis appointments. MN-S says, with the lack of a public transportation service, they recognize that the financial barriers associated with individual travel to treatment, can cause undue stress for patients and their families.
The organization says the need for transportation to dialysis appointments has been identified as a high priority with Mtis citizens. How many people need it though, has yet to be determined.

There are five in hospital locations and 18 dialysis stations in Central and Northern Saskatchewan. Nevertheless, MN-S says some citizens may have to travel as far as from Uranium City to Saskatoon; Or, La Loche to Prince Albert or Saskatoon.
MN-S also has a cancer transportation pilot program that they introduced in the summer.
