The eighth person to appear in court with charges connected to the homicide investigation of Tiki Laverdiere was Nikita Sandra Cook. The 31 year old had been wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant, but was located in Edmonton last Thursday and made her first court appearance this morning in North Battleford by video. She was remanded and is to appear again by video on September 13th.
Cook is from the Onion Lake Cree Nation. She is charged with first degree murder and kidnapping. There are 4 others facing those same charges – Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas, Soaring Eagle Whitstone and Nicole Cook. Three others, Brent Checkosis, Jesse Sangster and Mavis Takakenew, are charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Tiki Laverdiere had been in the North Battleford area when she went missing. Her body was found just outside of that city on July 11th.
