This candidate profile for the upcoming civic election features Kevin Boychuk who is running in Ward 1. Boychuk says it’s time to move away from the user pay mentality at city hall, and he says he is dedicated to having better and more open communication.
Boychuk’s says given the chance he would vote to rescind the borrowing of $67.5 million for the downtown library, find a way to relocate the the lighthouse, and he supports lowering or freezing taxes. Boychuck’s other priorities include extending merge and exit lanes in city lanes, changing the structure and function of community associations, and providing more funding to enhance maintenance, repair and amenities at sports fields in Saskatoon.
Boychuk’s campaign slogan is core neighbourhoods, core values and he has been an active member in Ward 1 since 1985. He says his work with community groups led him to believe city funding models were inadequate, with volunteers and donations often being the only source. He adds this motivated him to go after model changes to make it easier for community associations to revitalize their core neighbourhoods. Boychuk has also worked on other issues in the city including helping to get fewer trains crossing at Central Ave.
Boychuk says he’s driven by the opportunities he’s had and hopes to be able to to make positive change and growth with infrastructure enhancement, and proper maintenance procedures for citizens that are paying taxes
