On November 9th, Kyla Kitzul is running for city council in Ward 1 and says a priority if elected is an open a line of communication between the CP and CN Rail and the residents of Saskatoon. Kitzul says as their neighbours they should be involved in any decisions that affect the environment they live in.
Kitzul also prioritizes finding a way to lift the homeless out of poverty, in a dignified manner, as an essential first step to lowering crime rates, while fostering strong mental health. She says during her time working downtown she had a chance to talk to people living at or around the Lighthouse and believes it is important to speak to the people affected directly for a solution.
Kitzul suggests that many residents of Ward 1 are being shoved aside and ignored by current representation. Her main focus will be actively listening and responding to any and all issues members of Ward 1 bring to her. Kitzul says her extensive experience in the restaurant industry grants her the patience and problem solving skills to be more responsible and responsive than other candidates.
Kitzul says she also has a working knowledge of governance gained through her B.A. of History/Political Studies, an advantage she says, that her competition sorely lacks.
