On Sunday, U.S. Border agents seized a half a ton of pot at a Canadian border crossing. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Blue Water Bridge in Ontario sent a garbage truck to secondary inspection.
The driver, crossing the border at Sarnia, said he was taking trash destined for a landfill in Michigan. U.S. Border agents uncovered over 453 kilograms, or a thousand pounds, of marijuana, concealed in trash bags in the rear of the truck.
The Detroit Field Office, which covers all ports of entry throughout MIchigan, reports a significant increase in narcotics seized in the past 12 months. in the fiscal year 2020, it has seized more than 4,000 kilograms of marijuana at ports of entry across the state.
