The President of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation is suggesting increased numbers of COVID-19 is an indication that the second wave of the virus is now rolling through Saskatchewan.
There were 66 new cases Monday and 44 new cases Tuesday. Patrick Maze says at least 50 cases are in 41 schools since September 8th.
Maze has frequently questioned the approach to the re-opening of schools on September 8th. He feels the provincial government gave school divisions guidelines that were not consistent with the advice of public health relating to gathering sizes, cohorts and physical distancing.
Maze is reiterating the STF’s stance on suspending extracurricular activity citing it as undermining efforts by schools divisions to make changes to schedules, implement cohorts, social distancing, timetable adjustments, staggered start times and other precautions.
He also says the increased numbers of COVID-19 in schools confirms what the province’s Chief Medical health Officer has been predicting that as colder weather arrives, people move indoors more.
