For people who may have suffered a trip cancellation thanks to COVID-19, you might be getting money back if you booked through WestJet. WestJet Group of Companies announced on Wednesday that it will begin providing refunds to original form of payment for those guest with flights cancelled from any time period, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This applies to WestJet and Swoop flights.
Starting Monday, November 2nd, West Jet will contact eligible guests, starting with those who had flights cancelled at the onset of the pandemic. The refund process is expected to take six to nine months.
Ed Sims, President and CEO of WestJet, says their airline is one built on a reputation of putting people first.
“We have heard loud and clear from the travelling public that in this COVID world they are looking for reassurance on two fronts: the safest possible travel environment; and refunds.”
Sims says they have been delivering on the safe environment and as of Monday, November 2nd will provide refunds to original form of payment to itineraries cancelled by WestJet and Swoop.
WestJet is the first national airline to make a move towards refunds versus a travel voucher or travel bank for future travel. Eligible guests will be contacted in chronological order of cancellation beginning with those flights cancelled in March 2020 at the outset of the pandemic.
