The Saskatoon Police Department is giving people in Saskatoon and area an opportunity to safely dispose of old data storage hardware later this week. It’s to assist in minimizing opportunities for frauds.
The Saskatoon Police Service Economic Crime Unit, in partnership with the Electronics Recycling Association, is hosting an event where people will be able to go to Police Headquarters to safely destroy any old data storage hardware devices utilizing the ERA’s special shredding machine free of charge. The machine is capable of shredding hard drives, data tapes, servers, and other data storage hardware. The event will take place on Thursday, between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the department’s gymnasium.
Those wishing to take advantage of the opportunity are encouraged to use the west gymnasium entrance, off of the visitor parking lot. People are also asked to wear a mask, abide by physical distancing guidelines, and provide contact information for COVID-19 contact tracing purposes.
