There has always been a preliminary vote on provincial election nights and then a final count 12 days later, but because of the pandemic an extra count was added, which begins tomorrow (Wed) and will be the mail-in ballots received so far.
Chief Electoral Officer, Michael Boda, says 385,461 ballots were cast on Monday night, but there are some close calls that will be decided by the mail-in ballots.
The secondary count includes more than 40,000 mail-in ballots out of a possible around 61,000 where applications were sent and approved.
Boda expects it may take a few days because the votes are hand written, so they take more time.
The constituencies where the outcome has yet to be determined are the first priority.
The deadline for mail-in ballots to arrive is Thursday, November 5th, then as is legislated, 12 days after the election is the final count, which is November 7th.
Boda explains that it will include the rest of the mail-in ballots, long with hospital and remand ballots, absentee ballots cast at a returning office and extraordinary voting ballots for those that are self-quarantining.
