Saskatoon’s longest running charity dinner is going ahead virtually this year due to the pandemic.
The B’nai Brith Lodge’s 66th rendition of the Silver Plate Charity Dinner will look to raise funds for local charities. In th past 15 years the club has donated to over twenty different charities, and in it’s 66 years over $1 million for local charities.
The highlight of the event will include the We Are Proud of You award, given to a Saskatonian who has been an active, dedicated volunteer and leader but hasn’t been properly recognized for good works.
Dr. Steven Goluboff is a member of B’nai Brith and says normally the We Are Proud of You award honours an individual, but with context of the pandemic they went to honouring those on the front line.
Two symbolic recipients Dr. Tony Haddad and registered nurse Caitlin folk will accept the award on behalf of thousands of frontline workers.
Goluboff says that night people will be able to use a link to the virtual program and to help local causes. He says their focus is often on children’s charities and also support for the Jewish community to provide funding and remain viable.
Lodge President David Katzman says they feel obligated to live up to their commitments, especially when COVID has made fundraising so difficult for many organizations.
The virtual event begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday (November 4th) and an online auction starts on Friday at Noon and will close at 10 p.m Wednesday night.
