Keep your eyes on the road – everything else can wait.
That’s the message from SGI, with their latest distracted driving awareness campaign showing what can happen. It depicts the scene of the crash with the cracked screen of a cell phone ringing on the ground with a lifeless body a few metres away.
President and CEO of SGI, Andrew Cartmell says often a phone will ping or ring at the scene of a collision, with a family member checking in on their loved one, but getting no answer.
A real-life collision reconstructionist with the Saskatoon Police Service is featured in this awareness campaign.
Cst. Patrick Foster says he knows all too well the unwelcome task of informing a family member their loved one has died. He hopes the campaign will show that a text could cost someone their life, because it can and does happen.
Last year 16 people died in Saskatchewan because of driver distraction and inattention.
