As the cold begins to encroach on the city, our resident Grizzly bears and Dingoes are making their preparations at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. Dingoes, in their native habitat, don’t usually see temperatures below -5 and since the two here haven’t adapted to our winters, they will be getting access to one of the indoor facilities; although, they will still be able to get outside if they so choose.
As for the big bears, they have been knocking back over 10 thousand calories a day and up to five gallons of water in preparation for their annual deep sleep. In that period, bears can sleep for more than 100 days without eating, drinking or passing waste. Zoo staff will be monitoring them the entire time.
