Mayoral candidate Rob Norris took the time to address a controversial social media post Monday, instead of an intended announcement to support military and veterans in Saskatoon.
Speaking to the media near the Lakewood Civic Centre, Norris says a post that referred to Charlie Clark’s treatment of female Remai Modern board members, as terrifying, was released without his awareness, input or approval. Norris says the post does not reflect the values that the people of Saskatoon expect and the tone at the top matters, that’s why he will be taking personal responsibility for what goes out to the media and social media, and will be tightening up campaign protocols. He says the post reflects a spirit of contest that likely went too far.
When asked, Norris eventually revealed that a campaign team member was stepping away for a few days, who Norris claims was responsible for the post.
Norris says he hadn’t reached out to Charlie Clark yet but was going to do so Monday afternoon. When asked if Norris would apologize during that call, he reiterated that he would offer his heartfelt regrets.
