The Prince Albert Police Service is offering condolences to Elder Jacob Sanderson’s family, the Prince Albert Grand Council and the community.
Elder Sanderson worked with the Prince Albert Police Service offering guidance and traditional teachings to members and staff as the organization works toward reconciliation.
He acted as a spiritual guide with the Prince Albert Grand Council and the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
Chair of the Board of Police Commissioners, Sheryl Kimbley, says Elder Sanderson was a role model for members and staff at the police service.
She says they learned from him and gained a better understanding of traditional teachings and beliefs, which in turn informs their work on public safety.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Executive says it along with Senators, Veterans, Chiefs, Elders and staff are saddened to hear of the loss of Elder Jacob Sanderson of the James Smith Cree Nation.
FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says, “The FSIN was fortunate to utilize Jacob Sanderson as an Elder and we all had the chance to appreciate what a great man he was,” Cameron says “He played a crucial role in supporting meetings for different departments of the FSIN. He was a true emblem of traditional knowledge and his generosity to share tradition, knowledge, culture, values, and lessons will never be forgotten.”
