Although Saskatoon postponed the election in the aftermath of a major winter storm, municipal elections continued elsewhere in the province. Sandra Masters prevented Michael Fougere from having a third term in office and she becomes Regina’s first elected female mayor.
In Humboldt Michael Behiel is the new mayor while council will include the former mayor who also guided the city through the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, Rob Muench.
Fraser Tolmie was re-elected as mayor in Moose Jaw. In Prince Albert, Greg Dionne won for a third term and it was a tight race with Dionne receiving 3,322 votes to Darryl Hickie’s 3,077. David Gillan is North Battleford’s new mayor beating out incumbent Ryan Bater and in Yorkton Mitch Hippsley will take over the mayor’s chair replacing Bob Maloney.
The mayors of Warman and Martensville and the reeve of the RM of Corman Park were acclaimed in the civic election. In Warman it appears council will include Kevin Tooley, Richard, Beck, Trevor Peterson, Marshall Seed, Doug Ramage and Tracey Johnson. In Martensville the largest share of votes for council went to Jamie Martens, Tyson Chillog, Michael Cox, Darren MacDonald, Debbie McGuire, and Spencer Nikkel. Results are still considered preliminary.
