COVID-19 has affected everyone, and in particular older people because of the risk around the virus, which for some seniors has led to social isolation.
That’s why the Saskatoon Council on Aging is raising funds through a 50/50 raffle.
Spokesperson Virginia Dakiniewich says their usual fundraisers, a trade show and an entertainment event called the Grand Ole Opry Zoomer Style had to be paused, so it’s hoped the raffle can bring some funds in to support programs and services for older adults impacted by the pandemic.
They include their telephone visit program where a senior is matched with a volunteer for phone visits, working with the University of Saskatchewan to train older adults how to use Zoom technology, and monthly social webinars.
The Saskatoon Council on Aging, also known as SCOA, works on behalf of the around 79,000 people in Saskatoon and area who are over 55, to help support positive aging.
In other words, maintaining a positive attitude by staying active, engaged and informed.
