Due to the pandemic, the season for giving will be different for many families around the world this year. It will also change the way things work for the 37th edition of CJWW’s Secret Santa Campaign, which kicks off Friday.
President of the Board, for the Secret Santa Foundation, Vic Dubois, says radio personality Denny Carr started the campaign back in 1983, and after his passing in 1999 the Foundation looked to carry on his legacy, which was to make sure that no needy child in Saskatoon goes without a new toy under the tree at Christmas time. Dubois adds, the foundation was fortunate enough in the mid-2000s to expand that to include food hampers.
Due to the pandemic restricting events, caroling firefighters, hamper collection and distribution, won’t be available this year. However, this year’s donation campaign has moved completely online.
Cash donations will be accepted to purchase gift cards for groceries at the Saskatoon Co-op. Gift cards will be donated to the Salvation Army who will help physically distribute food cards and toys to over 800 needy families in the city.
