Sunday’s update from the city of Saskatoon shows that snow clearing has been completed in 28 neighbourhoods across the city, and is underway in an additional 20 neighbourhoods.
Saskatoon’s General Manager of Transportation and Construction Terry Schmidt says by tonight clearing will be complete or underway in nearly 75% of Saskatoon neighbourhoods, and things are currently ahead of schedule. He explains many neighbourhoods have been bumped up the schedule and should the pace continue he is estimating that mobility to all Saskatoon neighbourhoods could be completed before the original estimate of Friday of this week (November 20th).
While this is good news, that estimated time is just for clearing and not removal, which the city says will take some time afterwards to complete. They are still generating the full cost of the clearing and removal of the snow.
Schmidt says work continues in 100 plus school zones. With the snow piles being built up in these areas, he recommends people use extreme caution in school zones. Crews will also be going into back lanes, with the priority for those with garbage pick up. Schmidt says you can check the schedule on the city’s website for when your neighbourhood will be cleared. He explains while residents are not required to remove their vehicles on their scheduled times, the extra room will help crews. Schmidt says if vehicles are left during clearing there could be ridges left near vehicles that residents will be required to clear themselves.
