Back in the day, there wasn’t a whole lot of practical financial learning happening in school, but that has changed and a new website will help teachers, parents and anyone who wants to learn more.
SaskMoney was launched by the Saskatoon Industry Education Council in partnership with the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and the Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association.
SIEC project coordinator, Aaron Adair, says it covers everything related to the financial literacy curriculum that was piloted around the province last year, and which became official in January.
Adair comments that many people say, “Why didn’t I learn about this when I was in High School or I wished I would have learned about taxes or credit cards and things like that, and now it’s being taught in our schools, and that’s exciting.”
Resources for middle year teachers include lessons for students on things like budgeting, banking and how cell phone plans work.
Teachers can also access high school resources that include investing, taxes, interest and buying versus leasing or renting.
