The serious accident on Highway 16 near Springside on Thursday night was a fatal one. Around 8 o’clock last night (Thurs), the Yorkton RCMP and other emergency services responded to the collision involving a semi and an SUV.

In a news release, the RCMP say there was no third vehicle involved in the accident as was first reported. The driver of the SUV was killed in the collision and at this time efforts are ongoing to identify the lone occupant of the SUV and notify their next of kin.

The semi driver had minor injuries and was treated and released from Yorkton Hospital. The highway was closed for several hours and re-opened around 6:30 this morning.
