Statistics Canada says Police-reported hate crimes in Canada numbered 1,946 in 2019. That was an increase from 1,817 the year before. The highest number was in 2017 when 2,073 were reported. The rate per 100 thousand population was 5.2. Saskatoon’s rate was 2.7, with nine such crimes reported. There were 10 the year before. In Regina, there were only 2 reported for a rate of 0.8.
The highest rate per 100 thousand was in Hamilton, Ontario at 15.7. Second spot went to Gatineau, Quebec at 9.1.
