Alberta has declared a state of public emergency and Premier Jason Kenney has introduced new public health measures to try and curb the skyrocketing number of COVID-19 cases in the province. Alberta reported 1,115 cases Tuesday as well as 16 additional deaths. Indoor private gatherings are banned in Alberta, older students, grade 7 to 12, are moving to online learning. People who live alone can have two non-household contacts for the duration of the restriction. Outdoor gatherings, as well as weddings and funerals, are limited to 10 people. Kenney says the health care system is straining to bear the weight of COVID-19 patients. There are 348 in hospital and 66 in ICU. Alberta retail businesses and services will be restricted to 25 per cent of occupancy limits.
