The Government of Saskatchewan has announced a $400,000 commitment to provide Mental Health First Aid training to at least one staff member in each Saskatchewan school.
The goal is to have the training complete by the end of 2021.
The program was developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. The province says that online delivery will help keep the sessions safe for staff during the pandemic.
Mental Health First Aid can be provided to a person who is developing a mental health concern or who is in a mental health crisis.
Since 2017-18, the government has offered up to $9,000 in grants to school divisions for training to build capacity in their schools related to mental health and student safety.
