The Angus Reid Institute says lingering questions over when Canadians will be immunized against COVID-19 are having a negative impact on how they perceive the federal government’s management of the pandemic.
56% of those surveyed say the government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has done a “good job” handling the crisis. However, that is a 10-point decline from the last quarter.
Nevertheless, half of the people approve of the job Trudeau is doing; a level unchanged since early September.
The financial impact of COVID-19 has a massive impact on the outlook of Canadians for 2021.
Those who have lost work or equity due to the crisis are nearly twice as likely to say they’ll be worse off next year than those who have escaped financially unscathed so far.
COVID-19 is the top issue for Canadians in all provinces. Healthcare is the second biggest issue in seven of the provinces. For people in Alberta and Saskatchewan, it’s the economy that is next on their minds. In BC, its climate change. Third choice is the economy, health care, or climate change in the rest of the country. Third on the list in Saskatchewan is the deficit.
