Estevan may not be hosting the next provincial Scotties and Tankard…but that doesn’t mean both events are cancelled, period!
CurlSask added a clarification to their news release from Wednesday by saying the announcement was simply to confirm that Estevan and won’t serve as the host community for the two championships in 2021. CurlSask added that they have four scenarios to choose from to declare representatives for the Canadian women’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the Tim Horton’s Brier…both of which will now be held in a bubble situation in Calgary. The provincial body says the scenarios are focused on preserving elements of open entry and competition. However, rumour has it that CurlSask could just pick a representative for each national event if the other types of playdowns being considered cannot be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CurlSask says further details will be provided as soon as possible. The provincial Scotties and Tankard are slated to be held one after the other between January 29 and February 7. Estevan will be given first right of refusal to host one or both of those provincial events in 2022.
