Saying that aboriginal people are facing a “death sentence” as the Saskatoon Correctional Centre is going through a COVID-19 outbreak, Congress of Aboriginal Peoples National Vice-Chief Kim Beaudin is calling on the federal government to immediately intervene in the fight for survival by indigenous people in the facility.
The C-A-P is asking the immediate resignation of Saskatchewan’s Minister of Public Safety, Christine Tell. In addition, the C-A-P wants all-inmates being held for non-violent offences to be released immediately; the immediate testing of all inmates and staff for COVID-19; ensure any infected inmates are given seperate living quarters from other inmates. Beaudin adds, “With 116 inmates already infected, the COVID-19 outbreak in Saskatoon penitentiary could prove even deadlier for our people.”
