Saskatoon’s Police Chief wants to stress that the reduction in the Police Service operating budget for 2021 will not affect public safety.
That was Troy Cooper’s message to the Board of Police Commissioners today (Wed), as they approved the $199,300 reduction which was directed by City Council.
He says the addition of five special constables will still happen but may be delayed, which would mean a salary savings.
There could also be a reclassification of a civilian position and a look at overtime.
Cooper stresses that the priorities they heard from the public and from City Council remain.
The new operating budget total is $104,211,100.
