Non compliance with emergency orders in the province could cost you a lot more. It includes things like mandatory masking and not gathering in groups larger than five in your own home or not self isolating when it is necessary to do so. Maximum fines will rise from $2,000 to $7,500 for individuals and from $10,000 to $100,00 for corporations. The government hopes this will act as a deterrent as well as a penalty for those who carry out more serious offences.
Saskatchewan’s Justice Ministry says legislation introduced Thursday will amend the Emergency Planning Act, which wasn’t originally designed to address an ongoing emergency the magnitude of a pandemic. The amendment will confirm and clarify protections for individuals and organizations from litigation based on COVID-19 transmission, if there has been good-faith compliance with emergency orders. Similar laws were recently passed in Ontario and British Columbia.
