The Mtis Nation Saskatchewan has announced emergency COVID-19 supports available to Mtis communities and citizens in need.
MN-S says it is consulting with each Region to develop area-specific response plans and provide funding to help address each Region’s unique needs. Mtis communities in lockdown and households in mandatory isolation will be supplied non-perishable food hampers and personal protective equipment.
MN-S says it will ensure that the travel costs for in-hospital COVID-19 treatment is covered. Post-secondary students are offered access to rent, utility, and technology supports. Emergency childcare assistance is also available, as well as assistance with housing for those facing arrears. An application process is in place.
MN-S says, since March, over 4,000 Mtis families have benefited from childcare and household COVID-19 supports, and over 91,500 masks, 50,000 gloves, 800 cases of sanitizer and 200 sanitation kits have been distributed province wide. MN-S has also supported security checkpoints and community monitoring and provided self-isolation accommodation and food security in the North, with enough supplies to last two months shipped to 20 communities.
Mtis Nation-Saskatchewan is also supplying mental wellness and addictions support. Free culturally specific mental wellness and crisis supports are available to all MN-S citizens. Help is available for individuals or families and includes counseling related to crisis, trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, addictions and anger; case assessments and coordination; gambling and digital dependency; and legal and financial counseling.
Help is available in both English and French languages. Options include in-person support (where available), video conferencing, or telephone. MN-S mental health and addictions support is available at 1-855-671-5638 (8 am to 4 pm central time Monday to Friday) and 1-877-767-7572 (24 hr crisis line).
