One of the first discussions at Monday’s City Council meeting was about Sunday’s storms and the affects for certain neighbourhoods. Councilor Cynthia Block said she had been getting calls and in particular about Cairns Avenue.
Saskatoon’s General Manager of Utilities and Environment, Angela Gardiner, says workers have been responding in particular to areas where the intense rain was reported, cleaning up and debris and making sure the catch basins are clear. She says administration will also be discussing options to support those not in the 10 year flood control strategy so homeowners can minimize the impact of these intense rainfalls on their property.
Gardiner adds that the program where a homeowner can get an assessment of flood risks remains open, and administration will be reporting back in the next 6 months to Council.
