At 5:30 p.m., it will be a sight to see; 20 cars topped with Menorahs will parade through Saskatoon. The starting point is Meadows Market on 8th Street just off 8th and Preston and will go all the way downtown to the old Farmer’s Market in Riversdale.
Typically the community is invited to join in the Menorah lighting on the first night of the Festival of Lights but due to the pandemic rabbi Raphael Kats of the Chabad Jewish Centre of Saskatoon says the parade is a perfect way to show Jewish pride and celebrate Hanukkah.
Once the parade arrives at the old Farmer’s Market, a 20 foot Menorah will be lit. To ensure everyone is safe, the Menorah lighting will be very limited with all participants in their vehicles. Following the menorah lighting ceremony pre-packaged Menorah kits and holiday treats-to-go will be handed out.
