The President and C-E-O of West Wind Aviation is worried residents of Fond du Lac won’t be able to get the goods they need in a timely manner.
Micheal Rodyniuk said the community is growing and needs an expanded airport runway to transport people and products since it’s only accessible by air for most of the year.
The project is delayed because the province says officials from the First Nation community sent in an incomplete application.
Rodnyiuk believed it’s a case of miscommunication pointing out the province has been innovative in its approach to airport runways in the north and appear committed to improving air travel to remote communities.
He called the Fond du Lac runway one of the most engineered in Saskatchewan.
Rodyniuk does stress Saskatchewan officials need to change the classification of the Fond du Lac runway from gravel to asphalt.
He said it’s considered a gravel surface by the province because the asphalt used was produced on site and from not a hot mix plant.
The head of West Wind Aviation says lengthening the runway from 38-hundred to 5-thousand feet and widening it from 75-to-150 feet would allow them to fly in larger planes and meet the needs of the community.
