A news release issued from the City of Saskatoon Friday morning reported that the Fire Department would be assisting with healthcare support at the Correctional Centre, but a spokesperson for the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety says that is inaccurate.
The City has since amended its release and says the Fire Department and the Ministry are in discussions about what the support would be if it were needed.
Executive Director of the Communications Branch with the Ministry of Corrections, Noel Busse, says there have been preliminary discussions about the availability of firefighters and paramedics, but talks are in the early stages.
He emphasizes that the Correctional Centre doesn’t have Registered Nurses currently in self-isolation.
As of Thursday night, 38 staff and 96 inmates had recovered from COVID-19 while 19 staff and 59 inmates have active cases of the virus.
