Both the SaskParty government and the NDP official opposition understand this Christmas is going to look different for many people because of the restrictions around COVID-19.
NDP Leader Ryan Meili’s request of the government is to waive the 14 day self-isolation requirement for international travel for Mr. Santa Claus.
He also urges for a wage top-up with more milk and cookies for St. Nick.
Meili also reminds children, including his own two children, that Santa needs to keep his physical distance, so on Christmas morning they should stay in bed until at least 6a.m.
Finance Minister Donna Harpauer commented that our world is looking for a ray of hope in a weary world as she highlighted the Christmas hymn O Holy night with the lyrics ‘The thrill of hope, a worry world rejoices, for yonder breaks and new and glorious morn.’
Harpauer understands it’s difficult to be away from loved ones during the season, suggesting that it may seem like the Grinch is attempting to steal our Christmas.
But, as it went in the Dr. Seuss story, no one could steal Christmas when it lived in their hearts and Harpauer adds, “no one can still Christmas when Christ lives in ours.”
