Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Health Canada has approved Moderna’s vaccine and the first shipment is expected in the coming days.
Pfizer has also announced an additional quarter-million doses to be delivered next month, which means around 751,000 Pfizer vaccines for January.
Between the two pharmaceutical companies, Canada is on track to have at least 1.2-million doses in total from both Moderna and Pfizer by the end of January.
Trudeau also commented on the holidays, saying Canadians can’t afford to let up now.
He says, “This is not the time for Christmas or New Years parties. This is the time to continue wearing a mask, to keep your distance, to avoid gatherings, and to download and use the COVID alert app.”
Trudeau adds that this is also not the time for a vacation abroad even if you travel every winter.
He suggests with COVID-19 and the new strains of the virus, the situation is very serious.
