The Beaverlodge, Alberta RCMP say a police cruiser was rammed in a Christmas Eve pursuit.
Just before 11 in the morning December 24th, RCMP spotted a man, known to be wanted on 16 outstanding warrants. Angus Byron Ferguson, 40 years old, was seen on the Horse Lake First Nation and one of those warrants included assault police officer with a weapon.
Police say Ferguson sped out of the community when he saw RCMP. The pursuit included RCMP members from three different detachments as officers tried to stop the pick up truck.
RCMP eventually forced the pick up off the highway and the suspect reportedly took off on foot believed to be trying to steal another vehicle. The police dog was deployed in the arrest and Angus Ferguson was treated in hospital for a dog bite.
No RCMP officers were injured but three RCMP vehicles sustained substantial damage and were not drive-able. In addition to charges he was already facing, Ferguson faces another 13 criminal charges. He’s remanded in custody in Grand Prairie and is back in court next Monday.
