The provincial government says a new Saskatchewan program will mean a new option for recycling consumer batteries, keeping them out of landfills.
Starting this month, Call2Recycle Canada will be operating this new program where you can drop off your single-use and rechargeable consumer batteries, other than lead acid batteries at drop-off locations across the province and at all 73 SARCAN depots.
There will be an environmental handling fee when you buy your batteries, depending on the size and the chemistry type. For instance, fees for AAA batteries will be 2 cents and for AA batteries it will be 4 cents.
That money will go to Call2Recycle to cover the cost of collection, transportation and recycling of the batteries.
