The theft of two rig shacks, nearly a third of the length of an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a report to RCMP by someone who found them is an example of how important it is to report suspicious activity.
That from Sgt. Jeff Clarke, Estevan RCMP Detachment Commander who explains that the buildings, which can be used as portable office or accommodation space for work sites, went missing at the end of November.
An advisory was sent out, because police hoped someone would spot them considering their size, and about a week later a worker nearly 60 kilometres away from where they were reported missing found them.
The worker had heard about the missing rig shacks and called the RCMP.
Sgt. Clarke says police rely on the public to report suspicious activity – big or small – because they know what’s normal and not normal around where they live and work.
The investigation into the missing rig shacks, about 48 feet by 12 feet large, is ongoing.
Clark says there is the potential the buildings were taken by mistake and then abandoned when the error was realized.
