A significant street gang bust and shooting New Year’s Day is now coming to light. Around two o’clock that afternoon, Onion Lake RCMP were told of a black SUV entering a private yard and then smashing through a fence as it drove off. Officers spotted the vehicle speeding along Highway 17 and followed it as it turned onto Chief Taylor Road. Police allege that a long-barrelled firearm was pointed at them from one of the SUV windows and they were shot at multiple times. The vehicle stopped in front of the Onion Lake Cree Nation High School where the driver and the male front passenger got out and ran to an open field. They were pursued and arrested while other officers arrested the three remaining passengers, a man and two women.
All five have been have been identified as local street gang associates. Police seized two S-K-S rifles, one sawed-off shotgun, one sawed-off 22-calibre rifle, and various types of ammunition. You can see pictures attached to this story at cjwwradio.com.
Inspector Joshua Graham says, “This is a reminder that policing is dangerous.”
39 year old Twaine Derek Buffalo, 37 year old Glynnis Larene Chief , 35 year old Tyler Ryan Wolfe, all of Onion lake Cree Nation, 38 year old Danny Lee Weeseekase of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, and 32 year old Melissa Lee McAlpine from Lloydminster are facing firearm and assault charges. All remain in custody until their next appearance January 20th in Lloydminster Provincial Court.
