Saskatchewan’s Finance Minister says after the first quarter of this fiscal year, the budget remains on track, with a forecast surplus of $25.8-million by the end of the year, which is less by just under $9-million from the original forecast.
Donna Harpauer says the reduction is because of a significant increase in pension expense, but it is offset by higher revenue from federal transfers and higher revenue projected from non-renewable resources.
Revenue is forecast at $15.38-billion at first quarter, which is a 2.4 per cent rise from budgeted revenue and expenses are also up 2.4 per cent at $15.35-billion.
