The province’s management of a privacy breach includes gutting the eHealth Board of Directors.The new Board of Directors will consist of only two people.

eHealth is the Treasury Board Crown Corporation responsible for information technology for Saskatchewan’s health system. Last Friday the privacy commissioner issued a report after a ransomware attack a year ago that has been described as one of the biggest privacy breaches in Saskatchewan’s history.

The Minister Of Health Paul Merriman says there will be an independent review of the governance, management and program operations at eHealth.

“The direction I’ve given the board is to look at the 25 recommendations that came out of the office of Privacy Commissioner, that should be priority one. We need to implement some of those recommendations. Some of them we have done already, but some of them we’ll need to do and it’s a little bit more of a deeper dive into the operations at eHealth.”

Merriman says this new two person board, down from the previous seven person board that had representation from across the province, will provide closer oversight. The Board is being replaced by Ministry of Health employees.
