It must be a tough job, working for government because government employees seem to take a lot of sick days every year. According to the Canadian Taxpayer’s Federation, federal bureaucrats were off just over 12 days last year, on average, whereas those in the private sector were off 6.9 days. The gap is the largest in Alberta where provincial government employees took an average of 14.4 days last year. In the private sector, it was 5.7 days. In Saskatchewan, provincial government workers took an average of 11.5 sick days. Workers in the private sector took 6.8. The CTF reminds everyone that taxpayers are on the hook for government employee salaries.
