Naomi Hunter, Leader of the Saskatchewan Green Party says Premier Scott Moe is a bully. She is upset over the premier’s reaction to Regina City Council’s Executive Committee passing a motion to ban fossil fuel producers and sellers from advertising or sponsorship agreements. Moe says, if Councillors have a strong aversion to accepting money from energy companies, he will assume they no longer want to receive $29-million a year from the municipal surcharge on SaskPower bills and $4.3-million from SaskEnergy bills. The motion has yet to be passed by city council.
Hunter says, “A leader that goes after our Capital City like that, attempting to subvert its own sovereign democracy, is quite frankly embarrassing. And it’s wrong!” Hunter says her party stands with the council members who vote in favour of the motion.
In fact, Hunter would like to see the provincial government divest public support from oil and gas and put those funds into renewables.
