Over the next 18 months, the design team for Saskatoon’s new central library wants your input before getting to work on the new building to be built at 321 2nd Avenue North. Saskatoon Public Library spokesperson, Janna Sampson says public consultation and engagement begins today (Mon). At any other time, there would be more in-person opportunities, but because of the pandemic most of the input is online.
The first phase is about the general concept that you envision for the library, Sampson says. It continues until February 19th and then a summary report will be released followed by the next phase of engagement. There is a survey online, or you can ask questions and share ideas or post inspiration photos of what Saskatoon means to you.
Sampson adds that for those who aren’t comfortable with computers, they can pick up a ‘kitchen table kit’ at any of the library branches for conversations with family and friends, and then reporting back any input. Along with individual input, Sampson says there are 14 resident advisory committees comprised of individuals and representatives of community-based organizations and they will be consulted with each phase.
After public engagement, design development will begin in 2022 followed by construction bids, and then it’s expected work on site at 321 2nd Avenue North will begin in the spring of 2023 with the doors open in 2026.
